This Physics 1 course is specifically designed for first-year students pursuing a degree in Geology. However, it also serves as a resource for other disciplines, such as Hydrogeology, Petroleum Engineering, and Hydrocarbon and Water Transport. The course content is structured for a 15-week semester, with a weekly schedule of one 90-minute lecture and one 90-minute recitation session. In practice, due to various constraints, the actual instructional period is reduced to 12-13 weeks. To ensure full coverage of the official curriculum in this shorter timeframe, diligent time management and close coordination between lectures and recitations are essential. This textbook is the product of extensive experience in teaching physical sciences. Its content has been refined through a dedicated year of instruction and numerous discussions with faculty colleagues who have also taught this course. The material is supplemented with applied exercises designed to deepen understanding and reinforce the comprehension of fundamental concepts and laws. It is important to note that the limited number of hours allocated to this course presents a significant challenge. The course is divided into four chapters:
• Chapter 1: Mathematical Primer
• Chapter 2: Mechanics of a Particle
• Chapter 3: Optics
• Chapter 4: Acoustic Waves
