This course in Physics Properties of Porous Media is designed for first-year Master's students in Petroleum Geology. However, it may also serve as a teaching resource for other disciplines, such as Hydrogeology and Petroleum Engineering.
The curriculum is structured for a 15-week semester, comprising one 1.5-hour lecture and one 1.5-hour problem-solving session per week. In practice, however, the actual instructional period is typically 12-13 weeks. To cover the majority of the official syllabus within this timeframe, rigorous time management and close coordination between the lectures and problem-solving sessions are essential.
This manual is the product of extensive teaching experience in the physical sciences and, specifically, from instructing this module for the Petroleum Geology Master's program within the Department of Earth and Universe Sciences at Kasdi Merbah University in Ouargla. In its preparation, we incorporated valuable discussions and constructive feedback from colleagues who have previously taught this course. To enhance the practical relevance of the material and to assist students in grasping fundamental concepts and laws, the manual includes applied exercises.
