This course focuses on American literature tracing its development  from the early beginnings until the  the Nineteenth Century.  It introduces students to  the major pioneering authors and texts representing the various literary trends that have shaped this era.  This particular course, however, is a historical, political, social, but mostly a literary survey of America from the time of the puritan settlers of the New World  to the Early National Period of 19th Century. It exposes students to a variety of skills and strategies that will enable them to read the required texts effectively and critically.
