The course of Civilizations of the Target Language is dedicated to second year students of English language and literature in which students will acquire some knowledge about the history and culture of Britain and USA. S4 American Civilization course explores the transformation happened in mid-18th to 19th century America that shaped the country today. Based on the study of early settlements in the U.S. discussed in S1, the course looks into the formation of the young USA in late 18th and19th century moving from the early days of independence to expanding west and the closure of frontier. It also discusses the American Civil War and the Reconstruction era as well as  U.S. government which has long been shaped by the political practice of its people who believed in democracy and destroying despotism.
