This course aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the functioning of the nervous system at the molecular and physiological levels. It covers the fundamental notions of histology and anatomy of the nervous system, as well as its embryological development. Chemical aspects, including the composition of the nervous system and the role of neurotransmitters, are also covered. The electrophysiology of neurons and brain structures is studied to understand the mechanisms of nerve impulse transmission. Finally, the course explores the molecular basis of behaviours, including learning, memory, pain and aggression, in order to link neurobiological processes to the functional.
