This course of “ Literary Texts and Analysis” introduces students to English literature aiming to trace its development from the Anglo-Saxon period to the early twentieth century. A selection of different literary genres and texts, namely prose, fiction, poetry, and drama will be examined to understand the influence of important events in history and culture on literature. Students will also be introduced to basic literary terms, devices, and techniques and their necessary relation to the development of the literary works assigned.

This course explores how stylistic analysis can deepen literary interpretation, affect reader engagement, and expose underlying ideological structures in texts. Students will learn how to integrate linguistic features into interpretive arguments, consider the reader’s role in meaning-making, and reflect critically on the ideological and political dimensions of literary style.
The focus will be on two main axes:
Literature as a Text.
Literary Understanding and Interpretation.
