II. Course Description

This course is designed to provide L2 students in MCP with the fundamental  technical vocabulary essential for the oil and gas drilling industry. The focus is on building a strong terminological foundation to understand and describe key aspects of drilling operations.

III. General Objective

Upon successful completion of this module, students will be able to identify and describe major drilling equipment, understand the roles of rig personnel, and explain standard drilling processes and common problems using appropriate Technical English.

IV. Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Categorize the different companies and contractors involved in a drilling operation.

  • Identify rig personnel and describe their primary responsibilities.

  • Name and describe the function of key components of a drilling rig.

  • Understand and explain the five major systems of a drilling rig.

  • Describe frequent drilling operations and sequences.

  • Identify common drilling problems and their basic terminology.
