General Aims of the Document

The main aim of this document is to provide EFL students with a basic knowledge of the English for specific Purposes in order to make them able to use its findings in as both post-doctoral researchers or future ESP teachers.

Furthermore, the systematic incorporation of the lectures from simple and basic matters into advanced ones will help students, at the end, to master well this new field . So the lectures aim to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills which make them be able to use and to address issues areas related to language forms, functions and skills. To conclude, the current document will help students to achieve the following general aims

1-      To get a general overview of how Grammar as a science of language function in terms of fields of interest.

2-      To be familiar with the different notipons of ESP.

3-      To be able to differentiate between EGP and ESP.

4-      To be able to deal successfully recite and argue about ESP diachronic development

5-      To be able to summarize  texts .

6-      To be able to distinguish successfully between the five phases of RSP development To be able to deal successfully with forms, meanings and uses of modal verbs.

7-      To understand the importance of each lecture, topic and task in the evaluation process.

8-      To understand the importance of ESP .

9-      To raise learners’ awareness about the strong connection between ESP , ELT, and CLT.

10-To distinguish between necessities, wants , and lacks.

11-To spell out and list the main Needs analysis tools and their procedures.

12-To approach ESP course design systematically by administring questionnaires at different departments to gather information about the

learners needs.

13-To write an academic essay about ESP issues monthly.
