This second-year course in academic essay writing deepens students’ understanding of how to craft clear and well-structured essays of different types. Building on foundational writing skills, the course introduces advanced techniques for thesis development, structural coherence and paragraph unity. Additionally,  students will practice close reading, comparing and contrasting the different patterns of organization  while refining their ability to write in a precise and analytical style. In tutorial sessions, they will receive detailed feedback on drafts and learn strategies for revision, editing, and maintaining academic integrity. Through a series of short and long essays, students will develop confidence in expressing simpler and more complex ideas through writing on a variety of topics. By the end of the course, they will be able to produce well-organized five-paragraph essays that meet university-level expectations and demonstrate strong critical thinking. This course prepares students for upper-level academic writing.
