Chemistry

Welcome to the Chemistry Module for your second semester. This course is specifically designed for first-year medical students to provide the fundamental physicochemical principles required to understand biological and physiological mechanisms. 

This semester focuses on three core areas: Structure of Matter, Chemical Bonding, and Organic Chemistry.

Course Objectives

The main objectives of this module are to:

  • Understand the Structure of Matter: Learn the fundamental principles of atomic structure, electronic configuration, periodic properties, and molecular geometry to explain the physical and chemical behavior of elements and compounds.
  • Master Chemical Bonding Concepts: Analyze the different types of chemical bonds, including ionic, covalent, and intermolecular interactions, and understand how bonding influences molecular stability, reactivity, and physicochemical properties relevant to biological and pharmaceutical systems.
  • Develop a Solid Foundation in Organic Chemistry: Acquire the basic concepts of organic chemistry, including the classification, nomenclature and structure.
