This course provides an in-depth study of major hydrocarbon fields, with a particular focus on Algerian oil and gas fields. It introduces the fundamental concepts of petroleum systems, field definition, and hydrocarbon provinces, followed by a classification of hydrocarbon fields based on reserves and geological settings. Through detailed case studies—such as Hassi Messaoud, Hassi R’Mel, Berkine, and Illizi—the course examines the geological, petrophysical, structural, and diagenetic characteristics of hydrocarbon reservoirs. The course combines theoretical lectures with practical sessions to develop students’ ability to analyze, interpret, and synthesize field-scale petroleum geology data.
